Whistler

Having lived in Vancouver for 3 years, I never went to Whistler, partially because I don't like cold weather. It's July now and I decided to check it out. Due to low temperature on the mountains and strong wind, a warm jacket is still needed.

Whistler

The mid-morning Greyhound bus arrived at Whistler Village just after noon. I grabbed a crepe and rushed to the ticket office to get my cable car ticket purchased online exchanged. As I'm not into skiing, the activities in Whistler are mostly cable car hopping. There are basically three segments. First from Whistler Village to Blackcomb Mountain (this one closes the earliest so I decided to take it first). At Blackcomb Mountain, the view is good (if not superb) and lots of people are skiing (yes in July). The segment between Blackcomb Mountain and Whistler Mountain is the highlight (called Peak 2 Peak Gondola). The peak of Whistler Mountain is more flat and I did some walking in the area. The last segment down to Whistler Village from Whistler Mountain is a closed cable car and the longest of the three.Whistler Village is very touristy and restaurants are expensive. After dinner, I took the evening Greyhound bus back to Vancouver.

  1. I lived in Pemby for 11 years (20 mins north of Whistler) and there are lots of cool little spots in Whistler around the area. Of course, nothing beats the spectacular views from above the mountain. Awesome photo!
